Acne
Acne is a debilitating and unsightly skin condition that affects mainly young people - generally adolescents - but older people can suffer from what is often called adult acne. Acne generally affects the face, but some people might be affected in other places such as the scalp, the neck, or in extreme cases even the genital area can be affected. Usually acne will gradually disappear completely as the adolescent years come to an end, though some people may suffer from the skin condition into their late teens or early twenties
Its important not to confuse acne with simply sensitive skin. Lots of people have sensitive skin - but this doesnt mean that they all have acne
The cause of acne is generally hereditary but also includes the build up of chemicals in the skin, which the body for one reason or another is unable to deal with. Many acne treatments will therefore try and use creams and lotions to try and cleanse the skin of the toxins that are causing the spots and blackheads to form
Acne treatments and acne products vary, but often include acne medicine and in the main acne skin care creams and lotions. There is also an acne pill who can help the acne symptoms. Cosmetics should in general be used with care. Acne diets can also alieviate the condition. Diet and exercise can have siginificant effects on the patients overall "condition" and therefore a healthy lifestyle should be followed as a priority
Acne sufferers should avoid scratching the affected areas, as this could lead to acne scarring, as and when the acne subsides, and the patient becomes acne free. In the event that acne scarring does occur, it is possible to use laser treatment to remove scarring, but this may have variable results
It is also possible to try proactive acne treatments, which may help to stop the acne developing in the first place or at least getting to a more advanced state
There are a number of acne remedies together with a variety of alternative and complementary solutions. However none of these can provide a simple "cure" - generally acne will go of its own accord providing normal personal hygiene is kept to a high standard
